AnswersThe Answers to the Questions

  • Is LitterMaid® safe for my cat?

Yes, the rake will not operate until 10 minutes after cat leaves the box. If any cat re-enters during these 10 minutes the sensor will detect this and reset the unit for another 10 minutes. If the cleaning cycle has started and the rake touches any obstacle on its way back from the waste container, the rake will automatically stop and move back.

  • Will my cat adjust to and use LitterMaid®?

Over 4 million cats worldwide have quickly and happily adopted the unit. Cats love LitterMaid® because it keeps their tray clean after every use. If persuasion is needed, position LitterMaid® next to your old litter tray, but don’t clean out the old litter tray. Cats generally prefer to use a clean tray, and LitterMaid® will always be clean. When the cat starts to use Littermaid®, you can remove the old litter tray.

  • What are the dimensions of the litter area?

The LitterMaid® comes in two sizes. The dimensions of the litter area for the LitterMaid® LME5500 are 14" x 14" and for the LME9000 they are 14" x 17". We recommend the LitterMaid® LME9000 for larger cats or multiple-cat households.

  • I have several cats, will they all use the LitterMaid® litter box the same way as their current litter box?

Yes, the LitterMaid® LME9000 is optimal for larger cats or multiple-cat households (up to three cats).

  • Where can I see LitterMaid® in action?

  • What type of litter should I use in my LitterMaid®?

LitterMaid® requires the use of a premium quality clumping litter, lesser quality litters will impair performance. Do not use Non-Clumping litter, crystal or pearl-like litters.

  • How much litter should I use?

The litter level should be just below the “full line” on the inside of the unit, or below the “fill line” on the Triple-Action Tool in the center of the litter box. Be sure to level the litter in the unit before checking the litter level.

  • How often does the waste container need to be changed?

This depends on the size and the number of cats you may have in your household. For a household with one cat of average size, the Waste Receptacle should not need to be changed more frequently than every 5-7 days. Multiple-cat households will require more frequent changing of the waste container.

  • Why is my LitterMaid® not running automatically?

The sensors may be dusty and need to be cleaned. The two Sensors are located on the interior side panels and are protected by sensor covers. Just quickly wipe each Sensor with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust.

  • Why does my LitterMaid® continue to go through the cleaning cycles?

There is probably too much litter in the base, so litter has built up behind the rake, and is preventing it from returning to its rest position. Simply empty the unit and fill with the right amount of litter ensuring the level is between the “fill line” and “full line”

  • Why does litter sometimes fall between the unit and the waste container when the rake is in the dumping position?

Make sure the waste receptacle is installed correctly with its front edge securely UNDER the tabs.
